Abstract

This research was to analyze the compositions and phases of several kinds of amalgam alloy, which were DM, HA, HV, HA 21 and OP II. The back-scattered electron images of above alloys were observed, and their compositions were analyzed by electron probe microanalyzer. The secondary electron images and back-scattered electron images of all hardened amalgams were observed and X-ray diffractometer was used to analyze the crystal phases in hardened amalgams.
The following results were obtained;
1. DM and HA were low copper amalgam alloys, and HV was unicompositional high copper amalgam alloy which was composed of Ag-Sn-Cu lathe-cut particles. HA 21 and OP II were admixed high copper amalgam alloys.
2. Cu was distributed homogeneously in spherical particle, but e phases (Cu-Sn compound) were irregularly dispersed in lathe-cut particles.
3 Hardened HV and OP II amalgams showed 71 & rh phases and 72 phases. On the other hand hardened HA 21 amalgam showed yr & n¢¥ phases, but no 72 phases.
